The Institute for American Studies (IAIS) is a small, private, not-for-profit museum and education and research center in northwestern Connecticut. It offers fun, interactive and exiting programs, workshops and festival for all ages. Visitors to the museum experience a wide range of exhibits featuring Woodland Native American cultures from 10,000 years ago to present day. Changing temporary exhibits highlight Native Peoples from throughout the United States and Canada showcasing both historic and contemporary art, lifeways and material cultural material. Enjoy the Children's Discovery Room, and visit the gift shop with a diverse selection of Native made gifts and souvenirs for all ages and interests. Situated on 15 wooded acres with trails, garden areas, and a replicated 17th century Algonkian Village, the museum is the prefect place for a picnic and a walk in the woods.
